"Dave's a firm believer in spending more money and going somewhere else when we have a perfectly good studio! It'll all be revealed, but we are going somewhere different." - Taylor Hawkins
In November 2019 while promoting his solo record, Taylor was pushed for Foo Fighters upcoming recording plans by Radio 2's Jo Whiley. His reply was the first indication the band would not be using a normal studio for their 10th album, and now, thanks to the latest issue of Mojo magazine, we know exactly where that 'somewhere different' is.
Prior to the release of Concrete & Gold, Dave Grohl rented an AirBnB in Ojala, to begin sketching his demos in isolation.
"I need to know that there's nobody around. Like, not even a gardener." - Dave Grohl
This method was something he repeated last year with the venue on this occasion being a house in Encino, built in 1936 and owned by Hollywood actress Ann Sheridan which, in the 1960s and 70s, was a hang-out of John Lennon and Joe Cocker.
It appears that the inital plan wasn't to record in the house, but this changed once Dave began enjoying the sound & found out that recording had taken place at the property previously.
"Dave is always looking to not repeat himself. Not only musically but in terms of experience." - Chris Shiflett
A quick Google search suggests the house in question was 4670 Encino Drive. The property is currently on the market for just under 4 million dollars. Interestingly, the listing includes pictures taken on August 21st that show a basic recording set-up in place and if you look closely enough, there is evidence these were taken during Dave's time demoing.
